A Friend….. Thank you K.

To Whom It May Concern:

I just got done reading the Style section of the New York Times in which your salon was featured in the article “Business Perks (Must Be Laid Off).”

From one human being to another – thank you. Thank you for your kindness and humanity during a moment in time that feels less than normal for so many people, and by most accounts of major media outlets completely hopeless. I’m sure you aren’t surprised and know full-well at how far a haircut can go in making a person feel worthy, equal and beautiful – I’m sure you see it every day in both paying and donated services. However, I am confident that you add an extra bounce to the step of those who accept your service without charge, and I truly believe these individuals are more than likely to pass an act of kindness forward, even if in just a small way, extending your original offering of compassion into the world even further. Thank you for setting such a wonderful example to so many in such difficult time and illustrating that it doesn’t need to be so hard to run a business, make a profit and show kind-heartedness and generosity simultaneously .

And as for those “scammers” – what comes around goes around.

I felt compelled to write you, as I stopped getting my regular 6-week color and haircut after I got sick in April and had to reluctantly close the doors to my own business in May in order to focus all my energy into getting better (and am still working on it and will be into 2010!) And although I’m sure my husband wouldn’t mind if I went and got my hair done, I just can’t bring myself to do it with so many thousands of dollars in medical bills on top of our regular monthly bills. I know it would make me feel a bit better about myself in light of feeling not so pretty these days – but financially not such a priority. So I will continue to watch my roots darken and pull my wild naturally curly hair back to tame it – but I will do it with a smile knowing that in Lancaster your salon is taking a service that many assume as an “extra or a perk” and are offering it to those who really need that “extra” to feel a bit more whole!

Congratulations to you and your entire staff for your generosity and caring spirit – and from a PR gal at heart – a great article and fantastic placement in the NYT – something else money can’t buy!!!
